When we know, who walks beside us, on this path we have chosen, our fears fall from us.

THE MAGIC OF TITHING

One of the most straightforward ways of demonstrating our spiritual fitness is by how much we give, in riches and of ourselves. That disheveled fellow with the cardboard sign asking for money for “food” may not use the money for food as we would define it, but that does not mean his need is any less real. That dollar you give may provide more relief than you can ever know.

We reap as we sow; by living in fear of lack as a reason not to tithe we simply instill more lack in our lives. By giving with joy, never out of obligation for that defeats the purpose, what we sow returns to us ten fold. In these economic times, perhaps tithing 10% of your income would cause difficulty in your home, but we all have something to give. If you have little money, ask in prayer to be shown how you can best be of service, tithing the gift of your time and/or expertise.

A shared smile and eye contact with those suffering, acknowledging them, is a tithe that multiplies itself in ever widening circles, helping to release them, and us, from the bondage of self.
