Remember what it says on the dollar bill in your pocket? “In God We Trust.” Do you? When we give from a sense of fear, we miss the point of the giving. We are better off building on our understanding of the Spiritual Basis than to act out of fear. The core lesson of tithing is to affirm through demonstration that we not only grasp the concept but also believe in our heart of hearts that God is the only source. The particular channel that our supply flows through is immaterial. Just as with a free flowing river, its constantly cutting new channels but the source (God) of the flow remains unchanged as does the final destination, the sea (us).
“God is either everything or else He is nothing. What is our choice to be?” Give from a sense of joy, whether the tithe is money (easy) or time (hard) thank God for knowing Him better, certain in the knowledge that we always reap as we sow.
