Ever find a little money in the
pocket of a pair of pants or jacket you haven’t worn in a while? Always puts a
smile on the face doesn’t it. Now, did you ever consider ignoring it or even
decide it really has no value and toss it away? Of course not, that would be
foolish, yet many do exactly that with the found riches of faith. Individuals
who have embraced Living on the Spiritual Basis will be going along swimmingly
and then inexplicably step from the path reviving old behaviors and thinking, the
very things that drove them to seek the new way of living in the first place!
They had been consistent in the work;
reaping the Spiritual riches and peace of heart and mind of the new life, then for
reasons often obscure but always rooted in some form of fear, they fall back
into old ways of thinking and behavior, and the pain, emotional and spiritual
discomfort that brought them to the path in the first-place returns. The good
news is the way back is familiar and well illuminated, if not always easy to reacquire
due to pride, one of fears closest allies.
Our course is simple, as soon as we
become aware of old ways of thinking and behavior creeping back in, we stop
immediately and reengage with the prayer, meditation and service in the manner
which had previously worked so well, which fear in one of its many disguises is
trying to draw us away from. By rejecting fear and acting in our own best Spiritual
self-interest, which really is just another way to describe faith in action, we
find our lives always contain exactly what we need, when we need it, in perfect
measure, putting the lie to fears voice.
