On ancient maps when the cartographer
reached the end of what was known they would often write in the margin “There
Be Dragons” to denote the unknown beyond the edges of the known, fear
inculcated as fact, since they had probably never actually seen a dragon. Being
a metaphysician, I find that margin note quite appropriate when embarking on
any attempt to teach spiritual truth and principles. So many desire peace of heart
and mind but remain tremulous in their seeking, fearing what lies ahead in their
journey, whether that be what they may find within or how they will be viewed
by others. The path of true enlightenment requires us to remain open to all
teachers and teachings; the mistake is when we make any of them “sacred cows”,
placed on metaphysical pedestals, beyond question or error.
"We have to continue to learn.
We have to be open. And we have to be ready to release our knowledge in order
to come to a higher understanding of reality." Thich Nhat Hanh
Remaining open to new ways of
thinking and seeing the world around us is the road of enlightenment, but since
we are constantly breaking new Spiritual ground the specter of “Dragons” is
real. The carnal mind knows what it likes and most importantly is comfortable with
and will attempt to fill us with fear and trepidation, Dragons, which will stifle
our spiritual expansion. All that is required to become enlightened is
consistency and an open mind and heart, coupled with the willingness to serve a
greater destiny than our limited (carnal) imaginations can conceive. So, listen
to opposing viewpoints and engage in constructive dialog where appropriate (be
very wary of Dragons here and never argue with a closed, dogmatic mind)
filtering everything through your evolving Spiritual Truth and
understanding and never be afraid to share your beliefs and truth tactfully
through the prism of love, Dragons be damned.
