Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is an interesting Holiday, it's history associated with all sorts of things from Pilgrims giving thanks to God, Indian massacres to the Union victory at Gettysburg. Today the thanks givin seemingly is for days off work for some, time and a half for others, football, ditching the diet and workout routine for mass consuming of vittles, family (maybe), friends (probably), coming sales for mass consuming all manner of merchandise and that nap after the mass consuming of vittles finished off with pumpkin or pecan pie.

Now imagine a world without Christmas displays before December 1st, the whole concept of "black Friday" sales unknown, only those having chosen a career in public service (maintaining basic services, medical personnel, police and fire, etc) required to work, Thanksgiving being a day for actually giving thanks.

So take a few minutes today in quiet contemplation and give thanks for the lessons learned, the people who have touched you this past year. Love. Gently embrace the new person you are becoming, your unfoldment in Spirit is ongoing regardless of the amount of days in this flesh, your growth a daily occurrence because of a simple reliance on a Power Greater Than Yourself. And have seconds of that pie, I mean, it is Thanksgiving, Right?

A Thrilling Experiment

Ready to step out in faith, to take some concrete action? For the next 24 hours, act as if you really do believe in God. Relax, your belief is not in question, this is an exercise in raising awareness, our consciousness. Begin by demonstrating patience, tolerance, kindness and love towards all, especially marking those who are impatient, intolerant, unkind and unloving; piece of cake right.

Now for something a little harder, watching our words. Speak only in accordance with your belief in God. No negativity, gossip, sarcasm or cute cutting little remarks (regardless of how funny or clever they may be) when asked a question, whether it be from a loved one, friend, child, employer/employee or stranger frame the answer as if God were speaking through you. No pressure.

Finally, and the most difficult aspect, as if it wasn’t hard enough already, is to guard your thoughts. Stay ever vigilant of your thinking, measure each thought against the absolute truth of living life in His presence, at higher levels of consciousness. Pretty simple huh. Easy? Probably the hardest thing you have ever attempted, but the rewards are immense.

No one will not do this perfectly, far from it actually, but that does not mean we should attempt this with anything less than full commitment for half measures avail us nothing. It is easy to see why the experiment is only for 24 hours.

Finally, if you can, carry a small note pad and write down your thoughts through out the day but don’t get caught doing it or tell anyone what you’re about. If there is a chance someone will see you writing, then don’t. As you move through your life, from time to time, revisit your notes and note how you have changed and grown. Guard this experiment as if it was your most valuable asset, for in the end it will pay dividends that will last a lifetime, for once our consciousness is raised, we are changed forever.

Ready Or Not?

So many times in life we have thought we were ready only to find that a little, or a lot, more seasoning was needed. Typically this discovery happened after we were up to our necks. No? How about that position you thought you were ready for, so many want the title “Boss” until they get it. Or that home improvement project that looked so easy on TV. Not to mention, but I suppose I am, all those times as teenagers we were convinced we were ready to be grown up, “responsible.” When our children go through those years all we can do is suggest they slow down and enjoy the time, since once you become “responsible” that horse has left the barn and will never return. They will probably listen as well as we did at that age.

Spiritually it is impossible to demonstrate beyond ones understanding. Many have tried and great has been the fall. Conversely as you grow in spiritual understanding new horizons and opportunities naturally unfold. God, “Our Father” waits in readiness for our advancement. Truly the keys to the kingdom are in our hands, the timing ours. As we grow day by day in understanding by Practicing the Presence of God, raising our consciousness one day at a time, we embrace the Truth of Being; that we are timeless children of the Great Creative Lifeforce; connected to all, God immanent. So, just for today, pray gently and meditate on God’s love and guidance, and if your teenager asks for the keys to the car, try not to dwell on what you did in your parent’s car once you were out of sight.
